July 2002 PM - Elk, Red Deer & Hybrids

All today's photo's are taken at 20 ft. from this stand in our field.
There were only 25 out here this evening. The rest were scattered through the woods.

Their summer's work is to eat...

...and rest.

All the elk and red deer have chosen the shade to rest in on this hot summer day.
Bulls and stags gain hundreds of pounds of fat in the summer which they then lose in rut.
Eat.................and rest.
The bulls and stags don't seem to be excited about the wild boar one way or the other. Hogs will give way, but only if pressured. Other years we've seen a stag in hard horn clear an area of bad, 300 pound boars just by sweeping his antlers toward them.
